The Middle East and North Africa region is experiencing many transformations and difficulties over the past decade, with the deteriorating conditions in the region, the impact of wars in at least five countries in the region, the deterioration of human rights conditions in most countries, and then the Covid-19 pandemic appeared to test the world and the region. The harshest is not only to confront the pandemic, but also the consequences of this pandemic on the successive problems in our region. Women faced the double effects of all these problems and its consequences, and many feminist and feminist movements in the region have endured the consequences.
Many governments are not actively interested in improving the status and opportunities of women. Despite this, women actively participate in movements aiming for social change - revolution, national liberation, human rights, women's rights and democratization. We find that the Tunisian feminist movement was among the forefront in managing the Covid crisis. In Yemen, women and feminists continue to raise their voices to participate in the peace process. Sudanese women continue to present their issues and mechanisms to combat violence, as also in Iraq, Lebanon and Tunisia, and in all the political and security crises, feminists continue to play an important role in endorsing women's rights.
Based on the above,
The Collective for Research and Training on Development - Action (CRTD.A), in cooperation with Nazra for Feminist Studies, are preparing for a regional meeting, as part of its parallel event "Towards a Feminist Roadmap for MENA Region" that will take place within the activities of the 66st Session of the Committee on the Status of Women (CSW).
The meeting aims to present, and discuss national and international feminist policies with a focus on countries where women are increasingly suffering due to regional conflicts and tensions.
Time: Wednesday, March 16, at 12:00 - 2:00 p.m, Cairo time
